Neuromodulators & Botox Q & A

What are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are purified proteins that are injected near muscles, often in the face. Neuromodulator molecules are too large to penetrate our skin so topical applications of products that have hyaluronic acid to achieve a “Botox” result cannot accomplish the results that neuromodulator injections accomplish, Once injected, the neuromodulator moves to the nerve synapses and once there, begins to modulate the signals the brain is sending out to control our expressions. Neuromodulators allow our normally active muscles to relax so within 5-14 days the fine lines caused by muscle action begin to diminish as well. Neuromodulators don’t enter muscles. The compound simply blocks the nerve’s signals from getting to the muscle. As a result, the muscle relaxes and stops contracting. Neuromodulators lasts 3-4 months and diminishes, and in some younger patients eliminates, wrinkles associated with muscle movement. While the muscles are in a relaxed state, the skin over the muscles has a smoother appearance. Neuromodulators, depending on the type and dosage given by your provider, last from 3-4 months in most people. Patients can discuss what they want their neuromodulator treatment to accomplish their medical injector. Advanced injectors know how to alter the neuromodulator’s dosing and placement to achieve the patient’s desired end results. One secret to know about neuromodulators is that when an area is underdosed, meaning not enough neuromodulator is injected into an area, you will not get the results you want. It’s usually best to go with the dosing recommendations of Revive’s provider to get your best results. You’ll be happier with yourself when you experience the correction you were hoping for. There are a number of different FDA approved neuromodulators available to aesthetic medical practices. Each neuromodulator has unique characteristics and produces subtle differences in patients. All patients are different. Some neuromodulators work better in some patients than other patients. Medical aesthetics is an art and a partnership between the patient and the provider. Advanced providers can go over the difference between neuromodulators and recommend what they think will work best for you to accomplish your goals. They can also switch between different neuromodulators to determine which provides the best results for each patient.

Neuromodulators can be used to treat the following conditions and achieve additional results:

Botox

Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment that makes a dramatic difference in the appearance of moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles — those wrinkles you can’t avoid when you make certain facial expressions. Botox has been used safely for over 30 years by physicians and medical injectors for a large number of physical issues. Botox is a 95% pure purified protein and the most utilized neuromodulator in the U.S. since approved by the FDA in 2002.

Jeuveau is not your mother’s neuromodulator. Jeuveau is the newest purified protein derived from botulinum toxin. Jeuveau’s nickname is “Newtox”, #NTX or #Netox. Jeuveau was FDA approved for medical use in 2019. Its molecular weight is 900 kilodaltons, the same as Botox. Jeuveau is 97% pure and manufactured using the latest vacuum drying medical processing technology.

FDA approval means a company can’t change their approved manufacturing process. So, Botox is utilizing a 30+ year old manufacturing process while Jeuveau’s process was finalized around 2015, benefiting from 25+ years of medical advancements.

We’ve noticed these small differences yield some increased patient results. Patients report onset results beginning within 3-7 days instead of Botox’s 7-14 days of onset results. And we’ve noticed that Jeuveau usually lasts 2-4 longer than Botox. One more characteristic of Jeuveau patients have reported, and the providers at Revive have notice as well, is that Jeuveau feels a little softer than Botox. Revive prices Jeuveau the same as Botox so you get great value from all any of the neuromodulators you choose at Revive.

Xeomin is the most used neuromodulator in Germany. Xeomin was FDA approved for medical use in 2011. Its molecular weight is 150 kilodaltons, lighter than Botox or Jeuveau. We’ve found that it has about the same effectiveness as other neuromodulators. Xeomin can be a viable option to Botox or Jeuveau for patients who feel that Botox doesn’t work for them.
Dysport was FDA approved for medical use in the U.S. in 2015. Its molecular weight is 500 kilodaltons, in between Botox or Jeuveau and Xeomin. We’ve found that Dysport is a little less effective than other neuromodulators. In our experience we’re seen that Dysport creates the gentlest results of all the neuromodulators. For some patients, these lighter results can better achieve their personal goals with their neuromodulation treatments. All neuromodulators are similarly priced at Revive so patients don’t have to pay a premium to achieve the results they desire.

After your skin and facial wrinkles are evaluated, and your questions answered, your Practitioner at Revive Wellness Center injects precise doses of neuromodulator directly into the area associated with the wrinkles being treated.

Revive’s practitioners use the smallest insulin syringes and needles to achieve the most comfortable treatment. The treatment only takes 10-20 minutes, depending on how many injections are necessary and the number of wrinkles being treated. After your session is complete, you can return to your normal daily activities, but you should avoid strenuous activity for about 24 hours.

You’ll notice the improvement in your appearance in about 3-10 days after treatment. All neuromodulators slowly get metabolized so the results aren’t permanent. When the neuromodulator begins to wears off, plan on get another treatment to maintain your smoother, more youthful appearance. Over time, you may notice that you can go longer between treatments as your muscles get trained to express yourself in different ways.

With neuromodulator treatments you can lessen wrinkles and still be confident that you can laugh, smile, or even frown. In the hands of the experts at Revive Wellness Center, neuromodulators effectively diminishes wrinkles while you maintain your natural expressions.

Only a few specific muscles are carefully injected with a precise doses, so the impact of neuromodulators are limited to muscles that affect the targeted wrinkles. You won’t lose any feeling, and the rest of your face will move naturally as you express your emotions.

Neuromodulator’s ability to block nerve signals helps treat these conditions:

  • Hyperhidrosis (severe underarm sweating): Injected areas stop producing sweat for nearly seven months.
  • Chronic migraine: Two treatments every 12 weeks prevent headaches and migraines.
  • Blepharospasm: Abnormal eyelid spasms are stopped for about three months with one treatment.

There are so many good options to use to transform your appearance with one quick neuromodulator treatment. Please don’t wait to contact Revive Wellness Center, or book an appointment online to start your journey toward a younger appearance.
